Entering the Gallegos Zone (Feb. 5)

Ok so the week started off crazy. I was supposed to leave on Monday afternoon and so we got to the terminal early and I was waiting there talking to a family that came to visit. (Ok super cool story I went to their house to say goodbye to them and they weren't there so I left a note saying good bye, expecting to not see them again, and then the next day they went to the terminal to say good bye to me and they bought me food and it was REAL nice they are a super great family!)

But anyways long story short I MISSED my bus it was crazy (I don't know whose fault it was, maybe the zone leaders, maybe mine.) And so I actually stayed the whole day in Trelew and I got to spend p-day there. And then at night I took the bus all the way here.

It was SUPER weird to leave Trelew at like 100 degrees and get into Gallegos in pouring rain and cold as hail. Like it literally hailed it was cold. I think Santa Cruz is just a totally different planet honestly.

I was thinking about my experience in Trelew and I think more than anything it was my vacations. Like here that it's summer, everyone is going on vacations and so I was in Trelew for the summer just to enjoy it. (Obviously I'm still on a mission and we worked) but like I was only there for a month so it feels like it was just to experience Trelew a little.

But now I'm here back in Gallegos. Almost a year later. I left on January 16th 2017 and I arrived January 30th 2018. If I finish here I will have passed almost a year in Gallegos. From August until June. That will be insane.

But now that I'm back I have a lot more experience and time on the mission and I'm seeing the city through new eyes. It's honestly good to be back. I think the last time I judged it too soon because it was my first city in Argentina and I didn't have any other experience to base it on so I didn't appreciate it. Now that I've been to other cities I can properly make a judgment. It's still pretty ugly here. And the weather changes on a dime but I already knew that. But actually it's a decent city to be a missionary. As for my area, it's located in the outskirts of the city and there's not a paved road in sight. It's pretty humble. It's fairly new and being developed so sometimes there are brand new mansions that are bigger and nicer than the houses in the states but most of the houses are unfinished, half-built shacks that don't have much electricity or other necessities. It's been rainy so I'm finally getting to use my boots. Up until now I've used them four times tops so now I'm finally using them on a daily basis. It makes having lugged them around for a year and a half worth the trouble.

Our area is BIG. It's really spread out but it's what I like. I'm not much of a big city missionary. I would never live here but in terms of missionary work it's pretty good. It's pretty easy to get into a house. We've already gotten into like 3 or 4 houses this week and that's more than I got into while in Madryn and Comodoro combined so the south is where it's at.

Yesterday I gave my testimony and a couple of the members said they remembered me so it was nice to see familiar faces and also it felt good to know that the members from other ramas [branches] remember me because I feel like when I was here in Gaucho I pretty much minded my own business. So I feel good about it now. Hna Gomez already invited us for lunch so tomorrow you'll probably see pictures on Facebook hahaha

Btw pretty much the whole Rio Gallegos zone returned. My zone leaders Elder Rosas and Elder Halverson both served earlier in San Benito so that's good to have them so they can give us tips and references. My zone leaders are pretty cool. Elder Rosas is my mission twin. And also in the zone there's four of us from California so it's pretty great to be with the real homies on the mish.

Oh and btw I'm not district leader anymore so I don't know what p=President is thinking... every time I think I'm doing a good job, I get dropped but I'm not too disappointed. I'm fine with whatever or wherever I am. Also I made me think of the super good talk by Elder Uchtdorf  ("The greatest among you")

This week I met the converts of Hna Bulacio and they are SUPER great. I wish all members were like them. They invited us to Merendar and she's an artist and she gave me some of her art and it was sooo cool.

Throw back Thursday to a year ago. Crazy what's changed and what hasn't.
