Ok this week was full of great things and miracles.
Let me start.
We had a great lesson with the lady Gloria. She's this great Bolivian lady who we've been teaching for some time now but can never really teach her stuff. More like setting up citas [appointments] and then her bailing on us. But she's great so we haven't given up on her. Anyways, I've only entered her home once since I've been here and that was like 5 months ago. We had a miracle and she let us in this week. We quickly re explained the Book of Mormon and talked to her about the promise in Moroni 10.
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
We asked her if she thinks God answers prayers and she, in a very special moment, confided that she thinks so but doesn't really know. She said "I suppose so" but in a way that was obviously without hope. Then we bore testimony that God loves her and listens to her and that He will answer her prayers. It was great. And she comes from a religious background. It was the best experience just to know that I'm here in Argetina far from home for two years just to help this lady know that God listens to her.
And the other miracle we found was with Ariel, the boy that we are teaching that his friend is on a mission and was a big example to him. We talked to him about the Restoration and it was a great powerful lesson. We showed the 20 minute video (it's so excellent) and he had great questions and made amazing comments. He told us that he didn't know anything about Jose Smith and was super glad that we could talk to him about it. He really thinks a lot of us. He prayed at the end for all of us and to know what he should do. He's trying to follow Jesus Christ and he's so great!!
And yesterday we were able to find his dad and his sister and talk to them about the Restoration. It was a super simple lesson and we explained it all so simply. Honestly probably one of the best explained lessons I've been in. And Victor, the dad, is great too, with great desires to follow Jesus. Cintia, his daughter, had great questions and participated a ton. They are the best family ever! And when I mentioned Jose Smith, guess what!? They had told us that Ariel had already showed them the video! The video that WE showed him! He's progressing so fast he's already a missionary hahah.
It's experiences like these that make all of this the best time ever.
This week I read in the Liahona [church magazine] an article about the truths we know about God and Jesus from Joseph Smith's first vision. It was a great article. I'm grateful for the truths that we know.
This week we were walking down the street bien traqui and a preacher man comes up to us to fight us with the Bible and he starts of rattling off scriptures to us about how our church is wrong and baptism is in the name of Jesus and how we should study the Bible more. We just listened to him real calmly. And we tried to explain to him about Joseph Smith and he was like "No! Explain me this stuff from the Bible!!" It was a real interesting experience and it made me sad a little. Like the truths that we receive from the Book of Mormon and modern day revelation helps us so much to clarify all that. That's why I love it. But like we have to be willing to read it and then ponder it in our hearts. And then obviously ask God if it's true. I like in the Joseph Smith movie when he says that "I knew God couldn't be the author of all this confusion." And it's true.
Os amo
