The Comodoro Experiments: Week 6 (final week)

Ok so actually Elder Salinas and I are staying another 6 weeks. We are both pretty stoked for another transfer together. Things are really good between us. There was never anything bad but we are good.

The news is that I'm no longer district leader. Elder Singh is the new district leader. I'm honestly not sure why I got dropped. Normally in this mission if you get dropped from a leadership position it's because you did something bad but as of right now I'm the best Elder Ross that I've ever been so I'm not too sure... I'm not too angry or sad. I mean I loved being district leader and I was actually just getting the hang of it and being better but I have been district leader for half of my mission now. 7/14 months. I am grateful for the opportunity and I'm sure Elder Singh needs to learn more leadership now. He'll do a good job. I definitely learned a lot as district leader. I just wish I could keep being district leader.... but the good news is that Elder Gonzalez also got dropped as district leader and is coming here in my district!!! Now half of my district has been or is my companion at one point. jajaj and Elder Rojas is coming into the zone. I'll hopefully see all of my comps this transfer except for Nuñez (who's at home).

Elder Salinas and I have been making big improvements. And been working. We found and put a fecha with a 21 year old girl whose mom died 2 months ago. She's great. And she gave us juice and a whole pack of Pringles. And here in Argentina those are EXPENSIVE.

On Thursday we spent the afternoon knocking on doors and without any luck at all. Like I complained the last week, the people here just don't want a lot from us. We were about to go home to go play soccer. (We play on Thursdays) and I was like ok we've got to find someone. On the way back I felt to knock on a door and like 6 kids come out. They told us their parents weren't home. So we started to teach them. I like teaching kids but it's kinda hard to figure out their needs. So I started teaching about The Book of Mormon and asked things like "what's a prophet?" These kids were really smart actually and knew everything. After like 5 or 10 minutes outside of their house we see the mom in the door. At that point I was like "That's it. We are done. The mom's gonna shoo us away." She said something to us but neither Elder Salinas or I understood so we just kinda stood there. Then she said to us again but louder "Come in!" Elder Salinas looked at each other so surprised. Because first of all, it's RARE to get into a house here. And we did NOT expect that to happen.  We're taught the restoration and it went super smooth. Like one of my favorite and best lessons I've been a part of. And at the end, the mom told us "Ya I normally never let people in my home but I heard you guys talking to my kids and I figured I'd let you in to hear more." WHAT A MIRACLE!! We set another cita [appointment] for Thursday so we'll see how it goes.

Yesterday we ate an asado with the familia Rebolledo. The family that's gonna go to the US. I ate grilled bell pepper stuffed with cheese and I about died it was so good. I mean, I know the cheese takes away the healthy-ness of it but it was just really good. They are a cool family and told us they are going to take us to cool touristy places around Comodoro.

That's pretty much my week. It was good. It's going by FAST. It's honestly the fastest transfer I've had yet.

I read about Alma and Amulek again. So good.

Oh and on Friday we had a ping pong tournament with a few wards and it was great. I didn't lose but somehow the scoring got messed up and they forgot to count me in. Ughh but it's aight. I had fun. Ping pong is my 2nd love.

Also Mom because you asked for it, this is for you. So as of right now, the mission's been real chill [safety-wise]. Nothing happens. Actually maximo, Abasolo is one of the most dangerous areas in the mish. It's nickname is Maximo Balazo hahaha. This week we saw someone get robbed in front of us. It was the craziest thing I've seen in Argentina so far. The other craziest thing I've seen was a dog with makeup but that was in Rio Gallegos. These 2 guys pushed a lady over in the street and then dragged her across and tore off her backpack and ran up a hill. Elder Salinas didn't even see it but I started running to help the lady. But tbh I didn't run too fast because the guys had already run away and also I know as missionaries we aren't supposed to get into stuff like that. And also there were other people that went faster.

But honestly, I'm not even worried. Like I literally haven't been worried at all. Not once. And I bought myself a scripture bag for just my scriptures because I knew that if I got robbed they would take my backpack. And I like my backpack. (Elder Teixeira taught me that.) Also that's why I haven't taken many pictures because I don't carry my camera around.

It's chill though. And I wouldn't mind dying on the mish. So just know that if I die, it's what I wanted.

Love

Elder Ross
